Project Summary:

This mixed-use building integrated the historic Safeway grocery store facade into the design of a new building. The structure houses office space on the second floor, and a restaurant and a bank on the street level. Design of the building considered the preservation of an existing maple tree at the corner of the lot, and alley parking for bank tenant customer convenience. Human scale building elements were used such as individual window units, masonry detail, exposed structural steel, and stone building base elements. Second level setbacks were used to reduce scale along the street. 1712 Pearl Street was designed to appear as four separate buildings, reducing the apparent size of the building and creating design interest to the streetscape.
